Photo: DDI Instructor Car

This consists of an eyesight test, and a test of your driving ability. The test lasts for about 1 hour. You must be able to read a standard number plate at a distance of 27.5 metres (90ft). With or without glasses.

You must show that you have a thorough knowledge of the principles of good driving and road safety and that you can apply them in practice.

You will be required to carry out all of the low speed manoeuvres on the test:

  1. The turn in the road
  2. Reverse into a road on the left
  3. Reverse into a road on the right
  4. Reverse parking
  5. Emergency stop

The routes used for the test will include roads, which may carry heavy or fast moving traffic and will include dual carriageways and motorways.

The routes will be both inside and outside built-up areas.

You will receive your result at the end of the test.

Training Supplied

This will normally start from a pre-arranged meeting point, but if this is not convenient for you we can normally arrange to pick you up at a different point, or even from home depending on your location. You will drive over all of the major test routes used for this part of the examination and you will be instructed in the correct use of the driving system that you will be expected to use on the day of your test.
